Chatted with my colleague on Thursday morning. My colleague is a Malaysian, n it's been 4 to 5 months since she ever went back to Malaysia to visit her parents. Her sister came to Singapore to work too, so her old parents are alone, taking care of themselves. When her parents fall sick during the SARS - severe acute respiratory syndrome- period, she can't even go back home, thanks to the company. She couldn't get any leave then, because there's a lot of order taken by the company, n there's constantly a lot of stuff for her to do. She stayed on to do her job. Not only that. When her dad fell, n injured his ankle, n went to the hospital, she can't even go back, as the line leader, a sorta supervisor, don't give her her leave. Away from home.. it's sad. People just cant understand when the never experience stuff like that. Doris, the line leader, a Singaporean, was the one that don't grant her her leave. Y? Caused she needed people to finish the stuff for her. She never seems to have to work OT. Y?? Caused she got diabetes, N caused she had worked for many years for the company. Her education level was only primary school level. Maybe when I say, "cant understand when never experience before", I should think on her shoe too. Maybe she got huge responsibilities n she's being pressurized by the boss, but oh please.. I heard the ladies mentioning that the previous line-leader NV force people to work OT. What the hack are the people working day shift doing? For night shift, we are constantly working OT n having more things to do. My 2 other part-timer friends, working at the same company n doing the same thing as me, don't ever need OT at all. People "Just Cant Understand things when they nv experience it before". No one would know how tough it is to work night shift until they tried it themselves. It's tiring to have to stay awake at night, n to sleep early in the day. Erm... am I straying off?? To get back to my point, it's always tough to work in another country. You may do the same things as the part-timer, but u don't get the same pay. U may have available paid-leaves given to u, but u don't get to take leave as n when u like. The leave have to be approved by the line-leader. It's bad. Foreigner - those not as educated- who came here to work, have to work LONG hours, less rests, rare ride home to c their parents N most saddening, to leave their parents n let them take care of themselves. We, those local who are working n staying with our families, should really treasure what we have. There's a lot of people that are not as blessed as we are. Treasure what you have. |
